My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos

I'm a 31 years old mexican woman who started three years ago a new stage in my life through photography.
I've founded in this experience a lot of self discovery by opening a new vision of the world through images and how much you can express with them.
I realized how much passion I have for animals, specially for big cats; also that finding diferent places, it dosen't matters if I already knew them or they are completelly new, I remember my ability to be surprised by all of them; and how meeting new people, no matter where they are from, where or how do they live, teaches me a lot more about the great variety of human cultures as also as the experience enriches my spirit.
In theses photos I wanted to capture the Mayan Feast of the death in a little town called Kopoma near Merida Yucatan in Mexico. This is a popular festivity all over the country that involves the world of the living and the world of the death, in Yucatan the tradition is that all the family get together and make a special dish, the women prepares everything and the men cooks it, when all is ready they make the altar where they put the food they prepared along with fruits, flowers and candles to honor their death relatives. During this journey I got to live the experience with a great and traditional family who allowed me to enter into their lives and to see how every single member from the little ones throught the olders share this moment.
What I'm looking for from this schoolarship is to achieve a personal growth by living the experience and also by learning from it this is the reason why I should be part of this wonderful opportunity.
