Far Flew the Fly

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | flickr photos

I am Louise Far, a student of life who is passionate about imagery, indigenous culture, music, arts and alternative education.

A cultural worker and photographer from the Philippines, I live in the urban jungle called Metro Manila where mornings are divine albeit usually powdered with pollution. I work for a local corporate foundation whose flagship program focuses on transforming the conventional educational system of public elementary schools by means of an alternative and peer-led approach in learning.

Photography is the love of my life. It is my pulse. I discovered a personal affinity for documentary and contemplative photography which I dream of practicing intently and with integrity. It has always been my call to communicate through images the various aspects of the self and of culture, starting from my own, and be able to inspire and inform people towards the formation of hopefully, creative responses to the concerns of individuals and society at large.

I feel that at this point in time, I am in a stage of focused expansion which needs the nurturance of rich but relevant experiences of connecting with different places, people, creatures and ideas. Through the WorldNomads Travel Photography Scholarship in South Africa, I would like to further explore the question I have been working on for quite a while now – “how can the invisible become visible?” Also, I would like to understand the way I see and make sense of what I see and pursue mastery of the technical and the non-technical aspects of the process of transforming what I see to photographs and sharing these to the world so that others may derive their own learnings and ideas from the experience.

It would be an honor to learn, unlearn and relearn from South Africa.
