My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Peru | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Luke Myers. I’m 28, from Brisbane, Australia and for as long as I can remember I have always had a love for helping people, a desire to travel and a passion for photography.

I have recently returned from living in Cusco, Peru for 4.5 months. That whole time I volunteered, mostly in an orphanage. It was a humbling, life-enriching experience that brought about a great amount of self-development.

Having my eyes opened through cultural exchange is, for me, the greatest way to grow.

The feeling I get when I see new things gives me a sense of discovery. My mind opens, I get excited and want to share it with the world. Photography allows me to do this. I love the candidness that people bring to life. It is said that “the eyes are the window to the soul”. I love to see emotion and aim to capture this in my work.

I’ve always wanted to study photography, but never had the time nor money to pursue. I’ve learnt and improved through reading, trial & error and constructive criticism, but there's always more to learn.

Winning this opportunity to learn alongside Jason Edwards would be a gift that would allow me to continue on a path of pursuing my passion and following my heart.
