My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

During my studies for a Geography diploma – finished last year - I tried to travel as much as possible, always with my camera. I have learned as much while experiencing different (not necessarily "exotic") cultures, regions and countries myself as when reading articles and books about them before the visit. The camera gave me the ability to capture some of the tiny parts of the always-elusive big picture - and yet, despite being aware of that inability, presenting slideshows after coming back always made me feel that I have achieved something. That I have made a difference by bringing back my personal view of the things I’ve read about earlier. Equally rewarding was to later see a respectable publication point out the same observations as I have made during my presence abroad.
I have always considered being able to study and travel at the same time one of the greatest opportunities that I have been given in my life. Ability to bring some of these travels back home with me, to share with others, is another one.
I am convinced that the Scholarship would provide me with knowledge and experience that would help me greatly in becoming a (better) travel photographer. The will and commitment are already there.

This particular set of pictures is illustrative of a phenomenon that I encountered virtually every evening when wandering streets of cities and towns of Morocco. In an out-of-the-way places, between palm trees, passers-by and cars, kids would gather after sundown to play soccer. Sometimes even without a proper ball, but with passion and spirits more than making up for lack of gear. I felt always welcome by them, and joined them on a few occasions – sometimes to play, once to take pictures.
