My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Last year I went to a trip along with my parents and my sister to explore some of the most beautiful places of my country, Colombia. I visited a lot of places but the one that really amazed me was Taganga, a fishing village surrounded by beaches and mountains located over the Caribbean Sea, at the north of Santa Marta.
Taganga’s economy is based in fishing and tourism activities. Many of its habitants start working at 4:30 am and last all day fishing most of the time on little boats known as “Cayucos” so they can gather the most they can to sell their merchandise to survive and sustain their families.
I decided to choose Taganga for my photo scholarship because it is a place that apart from being beautiful, for having amazing landscapes and colors it also represents Colombia as a country of wonderful people that dedicates their life to work for themselves and their families enjoying the blessings that nature has gave them and taking advantage of it as the best they can.
Since I discovered photography I’ve always liked to document everything related with places and their specific people, how they live, how they enjoy life, their cultures and customs. I haven’t had so many opportunities to travel outside my country, but I am really glad and thankful for travelling around Colombia to know more about it and its people. I think this is the perfect moment for me to start travelling around the world, to know and understand other cultures and be able to document and transmit to others that we are not unique and that there are a lot of different things that in one way or another can complement our lives and life styles.
