My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Sri Lanka | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
Over the past 12 months I have been fortunate enough to travel to many countries around the world and to delve into their diverse cultures, ranging from the relative poverty of Sri Lanka to the opulence of Dubai. During my time in Sri Lanka, my camera became an incredible asset. In the more remote areas where communicating in English was difficult, my photographs enabled me to communicate and interact with the people. Their interest in my photos bridged the communication gap and allowed me to capture them as they went about their daily lives. Through my photographs I was able to tell the stories of the struggles and triumphs of these people that for many years were stuck in the middle of a war and were forgotten by the rest of the world. Photography has not only allowed me to capture indescribable moments to share with others but also given me a new perspective on the world. It has encouraged me to explore different cultures and interact with people that in other circumstances i never would have. It is these experiences that I believe have given me an increased motivation and drive to achieve my goal of working as a travel photographer and journalist.
