Scenes from Laos

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Si Pan Don means Thousand Islands, a very flat group of islands in the Mekong River in the south of Laos, just above Cambodia. These islands, many of which disappear in the rainy season, are inhabited by very poor farmers. As the local people support their local temples, this temple shown above is in a poor state. On this day, a young novice monk was shielding a roofer from the hot sun while the man attempted to repair the roof.
