India - A compass of diversity

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

India | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 5 photos

It has been 7 years now. I have grown, learned and developed and yet I still clearly see back on my 3 months backpacking around in India as well as travelling the Himalayas with locals as the greatest experience and eye-opener I have ever had. It was because of my trip to India I decided that I will continue to travel down the World, encounter new cultures and explore myself while simultaneously making great friends worldwide. Apart from a good memory I keep such experiences alive with my photos, and I believe a nice travel photo must not only appeal and entertain, but also display the different realities encountered, therefore making it subject to and infinite amount of perceptions and impressions, which is the beauty of photography.

Still I believe I have caught better and more telling photos with my old and first digital camera Olympus 220 Camedia, than with my relatively new Canon EOS. I believe this says a lot about the importance of the motive, the timing as well as the state of mind behind the lens.

I have been living on various continents since that, including Asia and I have travelled many more places, but if it wasn't for India I would not have found this great joy, so I decided to dedicate my participation to my old travel days in India. I covered more than 10 states there, so through my selection of photos I try to cover the diversity within India, rather than just displaying India's colorful charm and beauty. I believe India is much more than a postcard.

Currently I am in Russia visiting the great country for my fifth time and learning Russia. VISA rules does not allow me to stay more than 90 consecutive days here and I must leave by December and since I haven't decided my next destination I think Bhutan could allow me to drift in space once again.
