As a person who follows current affairs, I was aware of the situation in Libya. I came across a demonstration of Libyans in Melbourne CBD, and I spoke to them about the possibility of making a film about their activism. I hope that this film will be able to bring more publicity and support to their cause.
Since late 2010 I have been traveling through India and Nepal making short documentaries about the people, issues and places I have come across. I now live in Melbourne, Australia, where I have recently started a production company to make films for non-profit organisations who cannot afford expensive media solutions.
My ambition as a documentary filmmaker is to simply raise awareness to issues, which I believe in turn encourages action. I feel as a filmmaker, the responsibility to share these stories, because this medium has the possibility to reach such a wide and vast audience, in an impacting form.
This scholarship would be perfect for me at my point in development. I feel what I am missing is working in a professional environment, under the eye of a mentor, as everything I know about filmmaking is entirely self taught.
