My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Tanzania | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos
A restless daydreamer, I'm most at ease when lost in the woods with camera in hand. My greatest passions are travel, nature, and photography. Everywhere I go I document the natural world around me. I would be deeply grateful for the opportunities this scholarship provide, and believe the experience would be invaluable to my growth as a photographer and conservationist.
I studied Environmental Science and French in college, aiming to devote my life toward conservation efforts in Africa. I hope to contribute to conserving the world’s beauty - both its wildlife and its people. As a recent graduate my path toward this goal is still unclear but I’m excited by the many routes. Photojournalism is a dream option I'd be honored to explore.
In my entry I chose photos from my time living abroad in Tanzania. I spent five months studying conservation at the University of Dar es Salaam. I was fascinated, and somewhat saddened, to discover that many Tanzanians never visit the national parks that make their country famous worldwide. Instead, the parks are viewed as a commodity for foreign tourists. These photos are of my safari ventures, with both my UDSM peers and other foreign tourists.
