One-day trip to Slano Kopovo and the Aracs church

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I'm a 28 years old accountant living in my home town, Subotica. I'm finishing my studies on the University of Novi Sad, as a manager in tourism. I am vegetarian, interested in art, truly amazed and inspired by nature. I love to read, dance, sew, cook, and of course to travel. Any new place is an interesting place.
I've organized couple of youth exchanges abroad and for one of those trips I bought my camera Sony DCS H-3. I still use it, and I take it everywhere I go, for a long trips or just a walk to the store. Taking photographs I consider as a way of capturing interesting things, sights, happenings, but also saving some common, everyday memories. I'm both interested in shooting artistic, well composed photos and just clicking to capture the moment by “remembering” what I saw with my camera.
This journal was shot during a visit to the special nature reserve Slano Kopovo and the ruins of the medieval church of Aracs. The spots are in Serbia, Vojvodina, region Bacska. Slano kopovo is one of the last preserved salt marshes in Serbia. The ruins of Aracs are from 13th century, on of the oldest in Vojovdina.
This scholarship is just amazing. If it would be at my hometown, I would definitely apply just because of the knowledge and the experience. But being set in such a distant destination is an incredible opportunity to visit a totally different surrounding, have a culture shock and see some beautiful nature.
The reason I've chosen tourism as a field for studying is because of my dream to travel and I see it as way of breaking the prejudges of other cultures. Bringing places closer by journalism and photography can serve the same goal.
My birthday is on 20th January, I don't need to say what a present would be to win the scholarship.
