Moscow
makes me feel tiny. Is it designed to make the little people feel smaller? Hum,
hum… Even the park benches are massive. The streets are huge, buildings and
monuments gigantic. Everything is stern and robust. Lars loves it. I think it’s
interesting for a few days, but this will not likely be our final destination!
Also, it would have been a daunting place had not Lars known Russian I imagine…
Am starting to understand the need for the ‘cherished water’, vodka… Makes you
warmer, too!
We got our first introduction to Russian drinking culture on
the plane over here, where we spent a few very pleasant hours with our new
friend Oleg, whose toasts we’ll never forget. Unfortunately the journey was cut
short as our plane arrived one hour ahead of schedule – a nice surprise on any
other trip but not when you land at 4am and the train from the airport leaves
at 7am… We did eventually find alternative means of transportation, and made it
to our hostel (Godzilla’s – would recommend anyone to go there, it’s really
nice!) even though someone had lost the address and directions along the way… :)
Oh, and the Bolshoi Theatre and the ballet, Spartacus, was
out of this world!!
We are now on our way through Russia,
currently at Nizhny Novgorod after one night
on the train. Updates will follow… If we ever find Internet again…
