I’ve always been a very visual person. I also love, actually… live, for travel. And I have a keen interest in people, writing, current affairs and nature, as well as fields like anthropology, psychology and journalism. Photography, for me, is a visual outlet for all these interests. It is also a genuine passion in its own right, the simple act of composing your interpretation of the world and capturing it. I see so many fantastic travel/journalistic photos, and it serves the dual purpose of frustrating me, as well as inspiring. Frustrating in the sense that I want to take further steps to improve towards a professional level, but not quite sure how to achieve this, inspired when considering what might possible. The prize would be a dream come true. I am nothing more than an amateur photographer with an eye for a decent shot and bit of potential, the question of how to develop this potential in a realistic way is the question I’ll be pursuing in the next few years, as I attempt to align my passions with my career. A fortnight in Oman learning from an experienced and respected photographer, who has made a living out of doing many of the things I’ve written about, would be incredible.
