Aux and Lissa's Epic Cycle Journey

Back in Thailand?

LAOS | Wednesday, 9 May 2007 | Views [568]

just a real quick post as i have 16 minutes left online.

we are currently in sakhon nakhon (sp?) thailand after a few days
solid riding. we had to do a visa hop from laos. forst day it rained
hard, and the dirt road turned to mud. after 40 kms of that we finally
reached the border and rode across the friendship bridge into
thailand. we found an awesome hostel where heaps of american students
were staying. i bought some skyrockets off one of them who wasnt
allowed to shoot them anymore after hitting a thai dignatary and
sending him to hospital. i shot them all at laos but i think i may
have missed cause its still there.

after talking to a guy who worked on a floating bar on the mekong (
most awesome place yet discovered for the consumption of chilled
beverages) we decided not to go back to laos immediately, instead to
cycle for 4 days through thailand. this new route cuts out a big bend
of the mekong (and about 100 kms of mud road), gives us flat land to
cycle on and better food. i was also able to repair a broken sopke,
something not always guaranteed in laos. the guy at the bvike shop
wanted to replace 12 spokes at first (maybe cause they came in a bag
of 12). i argued with him for a while , left the bike and he only
replaced one. very strange people.

so cycled 90 ish km south on the first day, and 130 km east today,
heading straight back towards the mekong and savanahket. i dont have
time to check spelling so all place names are most likely wrong.
another 100ish tomorrow, to try and make up some time. we spent too
long lazing in vang vieng.

good things: sunny today, didnt get attacked by dogs, (as happened
yesterday, should have bought that fucking sword.) or shot at.
apparently on the road from luang prabang to vang vieng (which we
cycled 2 weeks or so ago) some busses got shot up by some goons.
prolly the same ones we saw in AK town. bikes make harder targets i
guess, but all the 'terrorists' that i talked to seemed cool enough.

so next we are riding to the bolovan plateau and to 4000 islands.
heard much a good things about both o them so really looking forward
to that.
