My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I recently took a road trip out West which unearthed my passion of photography & newfound inspiration for this project. Of all the beautiful places that the Pacific North West had to offer, I found simple, raw beauty on the outskirts of Seattle, Washington. In a small farm house in the country side, my eyes were aglow and my heart afire with the hidden beauty that I was about to capture through my lens.
The Schell family farmhouse was sweetly tucked away in the quiet countryside of Fir Island, Washington. On a modest plot of land dusted with cedar, pine and cotton wood trees that were aged to perfection. The rich morning light was perfect to explore the farms shadows and discover the hidden insects. With mirage like views of the North Cascade Mountains in the distance, and the soft seducing sounds of the Skagit River only feet away. I was captivated by the charming beauty this place had to offer.
I spent the early morning into the evening soaking in the splendor and taking shots at every chance I had.
To win this contest would be a dream come true. I am a 30 year old nurse, who has put my dream on hold to go to school to care for others. I have fulfilled my calling in life as a nurse, and now would love to explore my other passion in life, photography. This would be a chance of a lifetime and I would soak up every ounce of this opportunity. I have very little photography education. I have only taken one college photography course. I do however log onto National Geographic and other websites to keep my photography passion at bay. The other day I sat and day dreamed for hours of what it would be like to win something of this magnitude. Tears of joy and excitement were flowing from me.
