The acrobat's attire resembles a skeleton, harkening a literal interpretation of carnival or "giving up of the flesh." A more typical interpretation is to forego one's typical self as a release from day-to-day stresses. In light of Spain's current economic climate, it seems an unlikely expectation of participants and spectators.
