My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Nepal | Saturday, January 12, 2013 | flickr photos
At the age of 6, I picked up a National Geographic. Visuals of polar bears and tribes of Papua New Guinea filled my head. I became obsessed with the visual representation of the world. At age 15, I picked up a camera and it hasn't left my hands since.
I'm one of those people who hasn't quite figured out who or what they are yet. I've tried to blend my passions for travel, photography and empowerment into my daily life which has led me into the world of international development. Travel, check. Empowerment of populations, check. Photography, well, that is where the void of my heart is situated. In 2010, I traveled to Tanzania but decided to leave my SLR at home and with that, I found myself feeling empty until it was returned to my hands.
With this scholarship, I hope to finally bridge that missing gap. I hope to gain the confidence I need through mentorship to make the jump to a travel photographer and truly fulfill all my passions while also being able to share those passions with the world.
The most wonderful experiences I've had traveling, has always been listening and learning to other photographers around me, it is exactly this in which I hope to achieve and gain.
