Chillaxing in Opotiki

Found an awesome backpackers in our guide books which was 5kms out of Opotiki, a small town with not much going on...nice to be off the tourist trail. Everyone was really friendly and said hello when you walked down the street. The hostel itself was right on the beach and run by a very relaxed guy called Steve and his wife. Free use of kayaks and bodyboards and just an all round great place to be, our one nights stop became two very quickly! The weather was gorgeous so we took the kayaks out on the sea and caught some waves. The water was reall warm too which was a surprise when i fell out a few times!! Luckly Dain did too so it wasnt just through my own clumsiness!! Had a sore knee in the end as i got battered as the kayak flew over me. So so much fun, feel like iv been on the go all the time so to stop and play around was brilliant. Chilled out with the german people in the hostel (so many around!) and woke to gorgeous sunshine again in the morning. We decided to try the bodyboards in the aft and had a great time!!! The waves werrent very powerful but enough to get a few waves! Then we took pics of each other riding the waves on the kayaks as well. will put them up asap as they are amusing! Absolutely loved my time in Opotiki as it was so nice not to worry bout anythinng. It did however make me really homesick and felt down that day...Dain kept cheering me up though. Next mission is to the Coromandel Peninsula, cant wait as more beauty awaits! xxx
