Roturua

NEW ZEALAND | Sunday, 9 March 2008 | Views [532]

So met up with Lauren and Shane and went out wednesday. Great seeing them, if not a little random being on the other side of the world with them!! hehe. So we planned trips and left Auckland for Roturua. Decided against Kiwi Experience as the Naked Bus (like the megabus) gets us trips for like 10dollars instead of 100!! Looked forward to seeing a new place even though i was missing Dain heaps. Really strange feeling when I've known him such a short time. He makes me giggle, he's smart and most of all he's gentle and kind...major plus with my track record!! So anyways i could go on all day but il save that for when we meet up on weds!

We are in roturua at the mo, very bizarre place!! Steamholes popping up everywhere, and random blowings of steam from grates in the street. One house was even boiling a kettle in their backyard!! Taken a couple of videos as pics dont grasp the weird and wonderful reality of this place! Walked the shores of Lake Roturua, weather was gorgeous yesterday, to an old mauri settlement (from the early days of roturua) where we looked in the church and at the marae (sacred meeting house). The church was so unusual as it was christian obviously but surrounded by Mauri carvings in teh pews and walls, a beautiful place. Had a wander through the cemetary for ex- ANZAC servicemen. It had a very calm and serene feeling about the place, really noticiable as you walked through into the sacred area. I love the Mauri ideas of spiritual affinity to water and land, they are fascinating. Going to a Mauri concert and hangi tonigt (feast cooked in old style underground ovens), seriuously so so excited about it, feel like im getting some real culture! Will write soon and tell you all about it!! Heading to Taupo in teh morning....adreneline capital of the world!!tata for now!
