My Scholarship entry - Seeing the world through other eyes

I always wondered what makes people travel and leave their hometown. Maybe it is the love of nature and a thirst for experience; or simply a matter of escaping the confines of everyday life and understanding the rest of the world; or perhaps it is a desire to find oneself, buried deep within each one of us, something that can only be experienced but not explained.

So here I was, believing in an imperfect world, indulging in my own imperfections and traveling to other places to find like minded people while at the same time trying to understand myself and the world around me. Although I haven't been to a lot of places, I must say that I have met a lot of people from different parts of the world in my own country. Interacting with these people is an adventure and an experience in itself. With them, they bring a whole new world of ideas, experiences and cultural differences.

They all seem to have a mutual openness, acceptance and readiness to welcome everything that the world has to offer, however imperfect, chaotic and different it may be. A new dish doesn't simply represent a cultural difference, but it is a whole new
world situated on a plate; like a map waiting to be explored.

It's amazing how when I talk to these people, however different they may be, I can almost feel their aura and their experiences enveloping me. We sit there, sharing stories, delighting in bizarre findings and somehow secretly understanding the wholeness of the universe, wherein everyone and everything is connected; and experiencing this connection in small bits is the best feeling one can ever have.

No matter how fragmented the different parts of the world may seem, viewing it from someone else's perspective and exploring their fears and desires makes you realize that they are nothing but a reflection of your own fears and desires. This harmony can only be felt by experiencing the unknown. Maybe this is why we travel. Besides, the world is ours, and it's a delight to explore it.
