Hello! My name is Yurii Haptar. I'm from Ukraine. Last summer I came to US as a participant in student exchange program and I have been working in Universal Studios (Orlando, Florida) for 4 months and at that time, I started to dream about traveling around U.S. After a while, that dream became a goal number one of mine. Now I just can't think about anything else. I love traveling and I love that idea that I can do it in such awesome way. "Lonely Planet" is a famous worldwide successful travel publisher and it would be a pleasure to have a meeting in San Francisco with mentor and Lonely Planet author John Vlahides! I heard a lot about how people working with Lonely Planet and I think it is a greatest job ever.
When had finished my work in Universal Studios and got some money (something around 2000$) I decide that it is time for my journey, now or never. Almost everything in our life if about dreaming of something, thinking of something or actually DOING of what we want! Many people have some kind of fear about traveling, some of them just afraid to travel alone, some of them afraid that is too expensive and they can't afford it and they are staying in one place or one country for whole life. It is a huge problem that people are afraid and mostly afraid of another people, and people who are afraid aren't living anymore - they are existing, but not living for sure. Because it is hard to call THE LIFE when you can't do what you want to do or when you afraid to do so. I would even say live or die for something, because in another way you exist for nothing.
Okay, now actually about traveling. Probably it's never been so easier than in our age of technologies, transportation and communication. Everybody can find any information about any place. With GPS you can't be lost wherever you go. Transportation is available to almost any piece of land in the world. Moreover, it is always some way in which you can get there. I'll give you example from my own life. I had dreamed to see Alaska. Therefore, when I finished my work in Florida and went to Seattle I applied for work on the huge ship. And after the week I was on that ship and I made all way up through Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Alaska to Unalaska island. Hope it is one of the good examples how you can travel and work at the same time. People from the continent called that place as "Middle of Nowhere", but native girl told me that's wrong because it's "End of Nowhere". It’s Unalasla island! Have you been there? ;)
