An Afternoon in Edinburgh

UNITED KINGDOM | Tuesday, 7 June 2011 | Views [1689] | Comments [2]

Before flying out, I decided I needed to spend an afternoon checking out this cool city.  As it turned out, I should really have got up earlier and got an earlier bus (damn 2-hour journey).  Didn't have a lot of time, but I did get to:

  • Listen to busking bagpipers again.  It's wussy, but listening to bagpipes playing Amazing Grace actually can bring tears to my eyes (and, no, not of pain).
  • Eat Balmoral Chicken, ie chicken stuffed with haggis, and topped with a cream whisky sauce.  This was accompanied by an amazing strawberry and lime cider.  Go Kopparberg.  I've never seen this in NZ, but I really, really hope that I can find it somewhere when I get back.
  • Wander up and down the Royal Mile to see: the castle (just from outside, due to time constraints), many fancy shops, people dressed as Highlanders for photo purposes, many hot guys in kilts, cool views over Edinburgh, more pipers...

Where did you buy the Balmoral Chicken...it is probably the only way I will get Becky to try haggis (and she has already said she would try this dish). Since you indicated it was good, I would like the name of the place for while we are there.

I wish you could have gotten to Mary King's Close....

Hey Dee
I can't remember the name of the place, but it was a little pub down Blair St (just off the Royal Mile), which you can see here...
