My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

These photos are a small sampling of a trip I took with my school (Langara in Vancouver) to Nevada, Utah and California. This was my first attempt at landscape photography and I absolutely loved it. Prior to this trip I did not understand landscape photography but I learned about natural light and my world has changed for the better. I now seek out proper light to capture the places I visit and I'm truly rewarded with photos I'm proud of. They represent the places I've seen accurately and artistically.
Our trip began in Nevada and I noticed right away that I was seeing more in the landscape than one might get at first glance. Faces were staring at me. I started seeking them out. Overall they are not necessarily my favourite photos from the trip but I found the theme quite interesting. I find it even more interesting to see if others see the faces that I see.
I would like to embark on this adventure with Jason because I have so much to learn from him! I'm taking photography classes part time and I just don't get enough time to do what I love. My school offers multiple trips every year to go out shooting, but they are costly and not something I can partake in regularly. I would not waste the opportunity to learn everything I possibly could from Jason.
In addition to wanting the photography experience I'd value the chance to see South Africa and to travel with someone who is as interested in capturing its beauty as I am. I've been keen to learn more about the South African culture ever since I saw "The Syringa Tree" at a local theatre. I know a few people who lived there or travelled through and I'd savour the opportunity to experience if for myself.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my submission and for considering me for this opportunity.
