My name is Emily Kennedy. I'm a storyteller from Nova Scotia, Canada. Two years ago, my Mom was killed in a car accident. She was the most generous and self-less person I have ever known. She found the beauty in everything. Needing to move on, but wanting to keep her spirit alive I am about to embark a a great adventure. Starting in April of next year, I plan to travel the world (wherever I have a free sofa or floor to sleep on), interviewing as many people as possible in order to find that source of kindness and humanity that my mother so easily carried out. I want to be able to bridge together how we are connected in the world - not through the use of technology - but through our everyday lives. What makes us laugh? Cry? Fearful? And most importantly hopeful for the future? My mother's passing taught me that life is short. You have to take chances where you can. This opportunity would allow me to see a part of the world I wouldn't otherwise be able to. It would give me experience working towards something I am deeply passionate about, and with which the result can generate a better understanding of this great world around me. Learning through the stories of others is the best way to make positive changes not just as an individual, but as one big global society. I want the world to know that there is hope - that there is still beauty and tales of extraordinary strength to be shared. Having this opportunity would be the perfect stepping stone to get me started.
