Kitchen Quiet: The hot, bustling outside activity for the nutrition programme sits at odds with the stillness of the school kitchen. Unused stoves and cooking implements are held in storage here for use when learners attend hospitality/catering lessons.

Steering Appetites:
In addition to the nutrition scheme, vendors arrive at schools to sell a range of snacks for learners and educators – including chips, sweets, atchar (spicy relish), vetkoek (deep-fried dough balls), fish and even chicken feet. This lady transports all her goods by herself in her wheelbarrow, which also conveniently doubles as a seat during the long waits between lesson breaks. The atypical use of the wheelbarrow is framed by various bright cylindrical shapes which also seem out of place.
