Today we finally made it to Penguin Island, where I've been trying to go for a few weeks now. The largest colony of Little (or Fairy) Penguins in Australia live here. Unfortunately they are nocturnal animals, and they spent all day hiding in burrows and diving in the water, so the only penguins we saw up close and personal were injured and orphaned ones that live in the discovery center. They were too adorable for words, and I could have sat there and watched them waddle around all day. But once it stopped raining, we headed out for a walk around the island. It is a conservation area, so there's not a lot to do but stay on the paths and take pictures of the idyllic scenery.
