My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Australia | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
These photos were taken earlier this year while on a trip to the Blue Tier and Bay of Fires in Tasmania. The Bay of Fires is famous for the red lichen that gives the sandstone rocks their spectacular colour, but the shore line is also home to a host of flora and fauna. The sea shells provided an opportunity to improve my skills with macro photography, while the landscapes needed no enhancement.
I am a science journalist and a UTS journalism student with a passionate interest in nature and travel photography. David Attenborough has said that his aim with his documentaries was to provide a snapshot of the natural world through film; I would like to achieve the same through photography. I can think of no better way to start than being mentored by a professional photographer in a fascinating environment like Bhutan. I also believe that photography can capture glimpse of life and bring that to someone on the other side of the world. One photograph can tell the story of a thousand words.
I would bring to the scholarship an interest in the Bhutanese wildlife and culture, and a willingness and great pleasure in learning more about both the location and the art of photography. The Kingdom of Bhutan is home to a number of remarkable species, including the tarkin and the golden langur. It would be a privilege to bring these images to people and inspire them to travel or learn about another culture.
