Meeting the faces of Jambiani, Zanzibar

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Tanzania | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

I am a student studying International Development, but my heart is in photography. Over the past 7 years I have been teaching myself, saving up for better equipment and improving my skills.
I have had the privilege of traveling to some incredible places to really test my abilities and those adventures showed me that my eye is in travel photography.
I should be chosen for the scholarship because I am passionate, excited and determined. I am all self-taught, but hungry for better knowledge and skills. I am young with fresh eyes that are well-travelled and wise. I am creative and have worked hard for everything I have achieved.
I would be incredibly grateful, as this opportunity would give me the push I need to put my passion into real-world practice. Being mentored by Jason Edwards would be unbelievable. Having always dreamed of being apart of National Geographic, I am giddy about this possibility!
I hope you see the beautiful spirit of the people in Jambiani like I did, in my photos. And that you see the potential I have to grow, but also the ability I have now.
I thank you so much for your consideration.
Regards,
Lauren
