My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Central African Republic | Friday, July 5, 2013 | flickr photos

I have always had a deep, urgent need to discover new places and an even more insatiable urge to share what I see and feel. That is why I am passionate about photography; I believe strongly in its power to inspire, educate and motivate. What started as a fun hobby when I was 13 years old turned into an exploration of photography as a tool to tell stories that are seldom heard. I hope to spark a sense of wonder about the world, without which we cannot learn to respect and protect our planet.

I studied international health and development and conducted research on maternal health in Ghana when I was at university. After I graduated a year ago I decided to pursue primatology and studied gorillas in the jungles of the Central African Republic for 5 months. My interests span a wide scope, causing my career aspirations to admittedly be fickle, but I have realized that one thread remains the same: the desire to share images with others.

Despite these idealistic visions of mine, my technical skills often frustrate me. I believe Jason's mentorship would enable my photography to reach a whole other level and thus further my goal of reaching into people's hearts with my photographs.
