After working as photo editor for my high school yearbook, my write-up on the last page said: "Watch for my name in the pages of Nat Geo some day!" While this was the dream, professional photography is a difficult business. I have not let the fact that I am not getting paid to take photos stop me, though! When I started travelling, I loved being able to share different and exotic places and experiences with family back home. I love that photography allows me to hone in on a particular aspect of a scene to convey a message or mood to the viewer, it can shock or amaze, evoke nostalgia or reverence, all in a frozen fraction of a second. I've been travelling the globe for the last five years, taking tens of thousands of photos. I have loved every minute, and my photos are improving as I go, but I still have a lot to learn. The opportunity to be mentored by someone with a successful career in what is essentially my ideal job would be a dream-come-true! I would love to learn the tricks of the trade, and experience a day in the life of someone working for the Holy Grail of travel photography! My hope is that this experience would be a great step towards a career in photography.
