My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Peru | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | flickr photos

My name is Laura. I have always found that words are hard to put together. After high school I decided I would study photography; photographs can speak in any language without making a single sound, and that discovery sparked an insane passion. At university traditional black and white processing found me, and I soon avoided my digital camera in favour of an acquired A1, Tmax and Ilford.
I've travelled a fair bit in my short existence, but a trip to Peru was like no other experience I have ever had. Being in a completely alien place was strangely comforting; I love to learn and experience and there's no better way than being thrown into the deep end. I light went on and I knew that being a travelling photographer is exactly what I want to do, and yet here I am, working in a retail photo store.
It seems that knowing where you want to go is only half of the equation, and that getting there is the harder part. Universities can only teach you so much, which is exactly why I need to get out there and learn in the field with a mentor who can show me the life I dream of.
My one goal in photography is to take photos that you can't take your eyes off of; photographs that speak.
