My Scholarship entry - Weathering the storm

For everyone, travel is an escape; a way to experience another reality. For me, as a solo working parent, it is a vital way to renew myself.

When I travel, I am nothing more than myself. To be able to step away from my life and into another culture is not something that many parents have the chance to do, and I feel truly grateful that I can.

When I photograph, I feel awake to the chance to capture something special. There is something magic about the constraints of the lens; the boundaries and limits of which make me work harder to encapsulate the essence of what I see inside the image.
I have always been drawn to photography- it is an art form that is both inherently simple and truthful, while sometimes being neither. Of course, as a mother, many of my photos are of my children, and that's probably why I enjoy photographing the children I see on trips. Recently, my photography has expanded to accompany my travel writing and the taste of success I've had so far has given me a desperate itch for more!

To me, this scholarship represents something incredible; ; a way to learn to bring my travels back with me, a way to expand my own capabilities, a way to have the world.
