My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Canada | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 3 photos

Just as holding an object too close to one's eye can cause it to blur instead of sharpen, so are our own countries often the most difficult for us to see.
To battle this irony, I recently embarked on a Greyhound bus trip around the Canadian prairies. By distancing myself with my camera lens, I was suddenly able to truly view the subtle landscapes, people and culture that I had taken for granted my entire life. If given the opportunity to travel and photograph abroad, my eyes would surely widen that much more.
Having just completed a year of photojournalism, I know without a doubt that there is no other career for me. If given this scholarship I would not only work hard and get dirty, but also listen. It would be an honour to learn from both Jason Edwards and the people of Bhutan.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
