The Irish Castle

It was during a sunny May in Ireland when... Yes, sunny in Ireland, I know it’s difficult, but it was indeed one of the sunniest Mays in Ireland since 20 years ago. And we got it. Lucky us!
We were driving from the East Irish cost to the West, with the idea of ending up at the well known busker’s town of Galway.
We drove for many hours through all those green fields and narrow roads profiled by little stone walls. We made a lot of stops and one of them was the best memory of a trip I have so far.
The Castle. A Castle of 1400 which was restored by Peter, a great Irish person with a heart bigger than his castle.
The castle belonged to Peter since he was 20 years old, he bought it cheap and since then he dedicated his life to restore it. Every stone from the walls, every wood table from the floor, every furniture… Anything you could see in there was done by Peter.
We arrived after dinner and he welcomed us putting our luggage upstairs, which was a big task taking in count the size of that spiral staircase.
He started the fire in the wood stove and made us sit on a fluffy couch with a glass of wine. Best welcome ever.
So, there we were, overwhelmed by all the the history around us and listening to Peter’s anecdotes and stories of previous guests, his life and how he started to rebuild the place.
At some point Peter left us alone so we could enjoy our holiday stay as we wanted. At that moment, after all the excitement, I realized how tired I was after all the driving. A shower would be perfect before to go to bed. But, where was the shower? It wasn’t anywhere. We couldn’t find it until, during the search, we found a little trap door on the floor. An amazing bathtub into the floor in the middle of the living room.
Of course,...why not!
And we took a bath. In front of the fire. With the wine and the smell of the stove.
Best start of holidays, ever.
The master bedroom was one floor up. It was as big as the living room with a master bed in the middle, another fireplace in front, a big mirror on top of the chimney and a swing chair hanging from one of the wooden beams at the high ceiling. The whole room illuminated by candles. I was expecting an English lord from the mid century to enter any moment!
Next morning we woke up with the sound of cows and roosters, and with a big breakfast on the table.
Everybody should visit this place because the charm around is indescribable.
Best, holiday place, ever.
