I was lucky enough to be visiting a friend in Hong Kong during the annual Dragon Boat festival. During this festival cities China wide host Dragon Boat races. Teams range from professionals to high school students and it is a exciting demonstration of community and Chinese culture. Even in the somewhat removed and modern administrative region Hong Kong, the tradition is still kept alive.

This photo really encompasses the daily life of China. With the ever present bike in the foreground and a small convenience stall operating from a window in a building in the background. These small stalls, while common enough, are starting to face to competition from big Western brand names such as Walmart and 7-Eleven.

I took this photo just outside a market area in Tianjin, China. With the many pressures that Chinese youth face these days such as increasing competition for a prosperous future and being the only hope in their family due to the one child policy, it is not far-fetched to imagine that this quiet moment of simple play many be one of the rarer moments in this little girls life.
