Day 30

FRANCE | Sunday, 3 January 2010 | Views [233]

Got up this morning reasonably early (11am).

We decided to walk around paris and just get out bearings.

We generally followed the river from our hostel. After a while we found the huge park infront of the Louvre with all the statues in it. Impressive place. We took a few photos outside the Louvre, but didnt go in, it was already around 2pm and we wanted to seen the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triumph before it was dark. We'll come back to the Louvre tomorrow.

From the Louvre you can just see the Eiffel Tower so we headed in its general direction. The tower is pretty amazing. but looks quite different in person. Its almost brown, not the black you expect. We lined up to get up the tower. As we lined up the cops cracked down on all the little scumbags that try and sell you little eiffel tower models and other crap. It was hilarious. They scattered like cockroaches when you turn the light on. The cops caught a couple of them, but most got away. This helped pass the time in the que nicely.

We decided not to go all the way to the 3rd level of the tower, because there was more than an hours wait to get from the 2nd to the 3rd. The view from the 2nd was amazing. Paris is pretty spectacular, moreso than london. and its huge. got a few good pics from there aswell. the only downside was the freezing winds. without a doubt the coldest ive ever been. when we got back we found out that it was about -5 deg C on the ground, let alone up in the air.

After the tower we walked over to the arc de triumph, also pretty amazing, and it was nighttime now so it was all lit up.

We headed back to the hostel, grabbed some tea and crashed out.
