We are in a place called Pai now. Got here yesterday afternoon and it
is verrrry nice. It's a small town meant to not be too exciting here
but it is in the middle of the mountains so there are plenty of day
trips and trekking offered for close by. The town is laid back and
full of "hippies" (whatever that means these days =p). There are lots
of cool shops and real cheap yummy meals. Many of the guest houses are
overlooking a river. Our guesthouse is really nice but not on the
river, but there is a common area with chairs and hammocks that
overlook. Each guesthouse room is painted a different colour. Our room
is light green, and today we walked past one that was light purple
with purple bedding! I wanna trade!!!
I've seen some people floating on tubes down the river so I am going
to look into that! Its very shallow and very slow, but it would still
be relaxing! Our plan is to just relax here for a few days, sleeping,
eating, reading by the river, and checking out some cool swimming
pools we've heard about. We may do a day trip or two - maybe go see an
elephant camp. Then we are heading to another Northern town where we
will probably do a few more treks. I'm so relaxed here that it makes
me panic to think about leaving!
Last night we went to a cool bar and met a cool guy. We met his
girlfriend today and she is cool too! So we are gonna get together
over the week and go to the pools together and also bike to a trail
they know about that has a hike up to a waterfall where we can swim.
Also, I found a bakery here!!! The have all kinda of muffins and
scones and cakes and cinnamon buns and savory treats too. Today I had
an apple crumble pie and Indian Iced Milk Tea. YUM YUM YUM. And all
the Pad Thai is 40 baht - just a little over a $ and the servings are
so big I can't finish them. So I guess I could say Pai is a little bit
of heaven. Here are some photos from so far, I'll try to take some
more food ones soon.
Pictures!
