My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I love working with light in my photos, I am fascinated by the effects it can have and how it can completely change the mood of a shot. I think possibly my affection for light stems from living in Denmark, where we have no surplus of light or sun - when the sun comes out, so does the Danes. Here in Copenhagen people flock to the parks and canals to soak up the few rays that we are gifted with, and oh how the light changes the mood in the city.
The light changes with the seasons, and the change of seasons are felt almost with a violent force, as they change and dictate how we lead our lives. As summer wanes and cold autumn winds blow the light away, you can literally feel the mood of the city dropping with the temperature. My series illustrate this shift, from late summer to autumn, here in my place under the waning sun.
I am in love with my camera; I think about photos, photo opportunities and future photos all the time. Photography has quite literally changed the way I see the world and my surroundings. I am not sure, if I dare dream of a future in photography – but I think this contest just might have pushed me, pushed me to dare, to dream and to work for it, and I’m willing to work very hard for it.
My goal in travel photography is to take photos that capture the reality of a place (as I see it), by shooting strong individual frames that build upon each other to create an in-depth coverage of a place, so the viewer gets a sense of what it is like to be there. I’m currently studying Development Studies and I have travelled a lot in the developing part of the world - it is there I see my future photography taking place, telling the story of those people and places.
