Silence falls as the flag bearer prepared to march.

The First Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, “a Revolutionary War living history reenactment group,” prepares for the military drill on the Bowling Green, the centerpiece of the Independence Day celebration at Mount Vernon. They are wearing layers upon layers of dark wool--insanity in hot and humid Virginia summer--yet seem to enjoy themselves immensely.

Riflemen-sharpshooters, sporting less stuffy uniforms flank the march. This man is especially popular with the audience, even as he breaks character to gruffly warn some spectators out of the way. His gun is awfully loud and is a clear winner in the smoke-circles category.
