Hebron, Palestine

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Palestine | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Kyle Presnell. I have lived my entire life in small town in Southwest Missouri. (Ozark, MO). I teach rock climbing to kids at our local community center and am a huge outdoors person who is not afraid to get off the beaten path. (which is part of the reason I ended up deep in the West Bank) I am an architecture major at Drury University and through their program I did a semester abroad on a small Greek island outside of Athens, Greece. From their I traveled to Jerusalem, and then to Hebron, Palestine. The term culture shock can barely describe how I felt when I arrived in Hebron. To see and embrace the middle east culture first hand was truly amazing, but to see the hardship of the people living their changed me forever. To see two different cultures struggling to live in the same city was nothing like I could have ever imagined. Meeting people from both sides of the conflict changed me and made me appreciate what I do have and I truly fell in love with the middle eastern culture. People ask me about my trip to Israel and Palestine and to tell them in words about what I saw was hard, so I simply told them it is truly amazing what a wall can do to people.
