My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Gambia | Sunday, June 30, 2013 | 4 photos

2 years ago I dropped out of university, purchased a DSLR and hit the road to pursue my maddest dreams. Since then I traveled more than 60 thousand kilometers in 3 continents discovering the world and teaching myself photography.

I travel light and almost penniless. Never with a map, always by hitch-hiking. I constantly improvise - never plan. I stay with locals, eat what they eat, do what they do and communicate in their native language. I prefer destinations without developed infrastructure, undiscovered by tourists, usually quite physically challenging and dangerous. I enjoy breaking preconceptions about countries and cultures. I like to get close to people when I photograph.

I don't take pictures for myself. I do it for others. Every time I pick up my camera I'm on a mission to capture the magic and share it with the world.
