My Scholarship entry - The Island of Batanes, Philippines

Philippines | Friday, January 11, 2013 | 5 photos

Turning point. An epiphany. A realization. These are the things that pushes people to make drastic decisions in their lifetime. I reckoned the time I finally made the decision to stop living my life in the darkroom. I was a Post Production Colorist for advertising (commercials and films) for 4 years, spending my days inside a darkroom where I don't know anymore if it's night or day. I spent late nights, days, several days with this routine, that the sight of wide open spaces and raw sunlight is just pure bliss. After a trip to the mountains New Year of 2011, I went straight to my boss and quit my job. I rediscovered myself in mountaineering and have been climbing since. Today, I dream of doing the 2 things I love most - climbing and film. I can say I'm a purist in both aspects - started film with 35mm & 16mm and barefoot trail running. Men should not be separated from nature and exploration - for this is what we should be one with. Discovery thru photography is rather a tool to help viewers have the same epiphany and make a drastic change in their lives. We are born to move. We are made to discover. But ultimately, I am a voyager wanting to bring about these epiphanies to people.
