The Seoul Express

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | flickr photos

After the economy crashed my days were numbered as a marketing professional. Instead of worrying about my situation I was inspired by a friend to invest in a camera as a creative distraction and develop my interest in photography

I’ve been working on reinventing myself this past year and hope becoming a professional travel photographer will be part of it.

I’m an avid traveller and was fortunate to enjoy a layover in Seoul last year that included an express tour of a few popular sights.

My favorite stop was Insadog which was once the home to Korea’s largest art market. Today it is a neighborhood sought out by locals and tourists for shopping and eating.

What stood out most to me was the blend of ancient traditions within a modern day society. Well dressed professionals against a back drop of traditional food shops, stationary stores, restaurants and tourist memorabilia.

I had thirty minutes to enjoy the area and these five images are my favorites because they represent the country’s traditional past, bold present, and optimistic future. I also feel they represent how I am shooting, self-taught, I’m always in search of details that represent a place or situation.

It has been just over a year since I have been working with my camera. My goal is to keep learning and developing my skills especially when I’m traveling.

If you asked my friends and family why I should win this contest they would say nothing motivates her more than travel, photography and blogging.

I have an insatiable appetite for discovery and learning. This trip would be an amazing opportunity for me to learn from an expert in a destination that would never be the same on my own.
