My Scholarship entry - Concealed scars and veiled history: Vienna
Austria | Saturday, November 1, 2014 | 4 photos
I remember my first camera, it was plastic and green. Its most exciting feature wasn't its effervescent colour, but what its little cannister spat out in the Kodak shop on a Saturday morning.
Sixteen years later, the excitement of capturing something special has not dulled one bit. I was drawn to photography for the ability to hold a moment still forever, but I remained devoted because the medium gives way for unending creativity. I still feel an adrenaline rush from the moment I scramble with the settings through to the reverberations in my cheeks after the shutter's movement.
I rarely edit outside the viewfinder. I adore black and white film. And the more challenging the subject, the more unwavering I am to capture a seamless shot.
Photojournalism is my darling. It forces the combination of technical and artistic skills in a time-sensitive and potentially risky situation. As a result I don’t always get my shot, but when I do it is incredibly fulfilling. A one-on-one experience with Jason would move me a thousand steps closer to breaking into photojournalism. This would stem from the invaluable instruction and give me the conviction that the thing I love is a viable career.
