Here a Gannet colony overlooks these tiny fishermen below. Chit says he try's to come here as often as he can to fish, when he's not working as a gib boarder. He says he is cautious though and knows the dangers of rock fishing in the wrong conditions. Twice he has been swept off his feet by surging waves while fishing at high tide.

At Murawai beach there is a place fisherman come to test themselves against the elements and ocean. On a long flat rocky outcrop stretching out into the ocean, this is where I met Chit (far right) and his none english speaking friend; both from Myammar, Burma. Chit tells me he and his friend left from Myammar several years ago because as he puts it,

Fishing here is not the same as back home, he tells me. Back home Chit used to tie fishing lines to overhanging trees then leave and comeback later to see if anything had taken his line.
