The sad life of an indian girl

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

India | Friday, August 20, 2010 | 5 photos

The story is about a family who lives in a small village in Himalaya. Kirina is one of the six daughters, the smaller one. She is the only one who can still stay at home and not go to work, like her sisters. The family is building a guest house, and children and mother are working there all day long. Kirina has to stay at home to cook for them; I tried to surprise in these photos Kirina's story; one morning, when Kirina made breakfast for her family, she told me about her sadness; her father is alcoholic and he's not working all day long; only fighting and asking for money. Her only joy is going to school. She hopes for a better life.

As you can see, I had the opportunity to travel to India; I am a teacher and I have more free time, so I had this chance, to travel. My dream is to become a photographer. I started with painting and continued with photography; I've participated to some photography workshops and I learned new things from famous photographers.
In my photos I try to catch feelings and to show these feeling to people; to try to show them which are the ways I see the world.

I will be happy to win this scholarship for many reasons; first of all, I will learn from Jason Edwards a lot of new things about photography. I love to travel, so this will be another chance for me, to discover new places, traditions and to meet new people.
In the future I hope I’ll have the chance to find a magazine or a travel agency which would like my portfolio, so I can publish my photos; if this is not working, I intend to open a small studio where to take static nature photography and also to combine photography with painting. I think this fellowship would be very helpful for me in all points of view.
