My Scholarship entry - Risky Purchases

Vietnam | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

I am Noelle Jones, a lover of maps, savory-scented markets, old smiling men, and women making food with their bare hands. I chose my career as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher because I knew it would be a consistent job that would allow me to travel, meet others from around the world, and photograph the unknown whenever possible. Would I prefer to be a professional photographer, yes. As the wife of a musician, I have felt a greater responsibility to pay the rent and let my husband use his gifts. And for this reason, I take any opportunity I can get to learn, to become more accomplished, and to perhaps get closer to a possible reality of also being a professional artist. If I were able to spend time with Jason Edwards, I would give him little time to rest. I would love a mentor to teach me better technique, give me constant constructive criticism, and answer my abundant questions concerning how on earth one can actually survive as a professional photographer. I would want to know how you receive assignments and make connections. I need a mentor. Thank you for allowing people around the world to dream of this chance and for giving one person the opportunity to live it.
