My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I grew up in an athletically-challenged, indifferent to travel, and realist immigrant family in Banff, Alberta. No wonder I turned out to be a mountaineering, travel-junkie with a Nikon for a best friend. Strangely, I didn't exactly embrace this lifestyle until I came home 4 years ago when I was 22. While working corporate retail & abandoning my BFA, I lost total sense of who I was. I began travelling, using Banff as my home-base, picked up a camera & never looked back.
My images are simple but evocative of human emotion. You don't need people suffering to show poverty, or champagne glasses to show celebration. I love that images can capture more human emotion, than humans can. I love the art a camera can release & the technology that it harnesses - it's the medium of our generation. Everyone's a photographer these days, but not always a storyteller.
I've got a lot to learn and would love the opportunity to have a mentor to learn from: I'm a lifelong student, an underdog and a fighter. In the future, I'd like to tell more gritty, truthful stories through images with incredible tension like those of Ansel Adams and James Balog. I find them truly inspirational and important.
