My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I've visited many streets -some streets, are stages. The photos in my series are a tribute to the artists performing on streets of cities and towns across the world; to the people who express themselves and exhibit their talents for anyone who will lend their attention. A photograph has the power to illuminate and illustrate life where sometimes words fail. When my pen no longer effectively communicated all my thoughts, I began to use my camera to compensate for the lack of words. For the past year and a half I’ve learned to let my photographs be the unspoken poem written by my creative eye. I was fortunate to be born in an era so advanced and developed. The world that I’ve grown to know is constantly changing and disappearing and I strive to capture it as it is whether in my backyard or across the pond. I desire to capture a modern sadistic manifestation of volatile experiences in our society, yet expose the fragile and serene environment that coexists.
I believe that in order to become great at anything, that you must learn everything you can about it. I know I would greatly benefit from a unique experience like traveling to Bhutan to be mentored by Jason Edwards. Through my recent pledge of volunteer service to an AmeriCorps program geared towards mentoring, I’ve really been able to understand the benefit of mentoring relationships. As a result, I’ve been seeking the opportunity to build a positive relationship with someone wise and trustworthy who can provide guidance and advice specifically in photography. I have an intense desire to travel, explore, and learn how to express my visions more powerfully through my lens and I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to benefit the most from an opportunity such as this one.
