My friends Graham and Helen have lived here for 3 years. I met them through Grayhams brother Colin he is engaged to my oldest friend Carla. They kindly invited me to stay and had many plans until Gray decided to have a accident with a skateboard on an extremely large hill! Thankfully he is alive with a fractured skull and a spectacularly damaged knee - check out pics! His foot was basically facing the wrong way round. The specialist said he had seen nothing like it and can only imagine what pain he must of been in. Luckily I arrived a few weeks after the damage was done so was able to come and spend some time with them. I met up with Paulas friend from work Frog and we went and hung out down the beach for the day.Its such an amazing beach really quiet and pretty. The water is really still here not like Phillip Island, so it was nice to swim in. Not too far out as with most places sharks arent far away!
We all went out into Henley Square for a few beers and had a good night meeting friends Paulette whos leeds/adelaide and Frank who is from Blackpool. It was a good night. Playing pool and drinking more back at the house. We ended up drinking til late and we all started falling asleep in the garden, I quicky realised and got us all in as we could of been eaten alive by mosquitos!
Saturday went to the beach and chilled and had some nice food and wine in the evening. Played poker to my surprise and everyone elses I won! Was a good night except the boys were getting fed up of waiting for me and Hels to shut up and play : ) The temp got to 55 degrees in there back garden it was such a hot day and night. I hardly slept a wink and had to be up for 530am to go on my tour to Kangaroo Island.
Kangaroo Island 18th- 19th Feb
We started off from Hostel 109 in the city. There were only 10 of us for the tour which was a nice number. A Japanese guy called Shigeru. German girls Heidi, Regina and Nicole. Denmark sisters Malene and Marianne (jansejep). Irish couple Ivo and Kat. Me and fellow Brummie Frog (Alan).
Our tour guide was called Will. It took two hours to get to the ferry port and a further 45 mins on the ferry to get to the island. We all soon got to know one another sitting in the bus for so long together. We clmbed up Prospect Hill to get a good view of the island it was a sight. We then went to the place where we were staying for the night to drop off our stuff and have some lunch. We then went to Seal bay it was great to get so close to these animals 10 mtrs was the closest we could get. We then went to Vivonne Bay - its meant to be the best beach in all of Ausralis - im yet to find out! We went in the sea and the waves were mad. I body surfed for the first time it was so much fun didnt want to leave but we had a schedule to keep to so we could see as much of the island as possible. We then went back to the digs for dinner we all chipped in. Then we went Sand Boarding!!!!!!!!! This was sooooooooooo much fun. We were lucky as the previous groups couldnt go as the sand had been to hot. We got there before sun set and it was nicely cooling down! Then we went to see the penguins, much similar to Phillip Island but looking with torches and no one else around. We saw one. Went back to the digs and had some toasted marshmellows round the campfire with another group. Had a few beers and got to see the Milky Way - it was breathtaking.
We were up and out by 8am. We drove through Flinders Chase National Park and saw the funniest little Kangaroo - it was posing for photos! We went to a place called Remarkable Rocks before the crowds. It was what its called. Stunning. We went to Admirals Arch New Zealand Fur Seal Colony, which was amazing and the surf there, well you wouldnt want to get into it its so big and rough. We drove the North Coast of Kangaroo Island. We went on a ittle hike of 3km rtn to a place called Snake Lagoon to see if we could see any plateupus - we didnt. We then went onto a place called Western River Cove where the surf there was so big, a wave crashed down on me and I knew about it! We had lunch here. Its very pretty. A local fisherman came ashore and said we could all go and have a look on his boat. So once I managed to get through the waves I swam for my life to the boat. It was exhausting but fun. The fisherman was a Crayfisherman and showed us what they looked like and what the living quarters were like. After the traumatic episode to get to the boat me and Mal decided to get a lift on the dingy. Well, it was histerical the young boy steering it didnt know what he was doing and the older guy was instructing him! we nearly hit the rocks. We just sat there laughing nerviously and decided it may have been easier to swim in.
By the time all the fun of this beach was over it was time to head back to the ferry. It was a great trip and we all go along well which makes all the difference. Totally recommend visiting Kangaroo Island if you get the chance.
I arrived back at Gray and Hels at 1030pm. Had a great sllep and up early for shopping and sightseeing. Had to buy some proper walking sandles for next trip and plenty of sunscreen its going to be in the 40's and 50's throught to the centre.
I went into Adelaide saw the Botanical gardens, met Heidi off the tour and we went into the hills to see the view of the city from Mt Lofty. Its amazing how small Adelaide really is. Then I came back into the city and walked around to the cricket ground. Sat outside a cafe drinking beer until Hels finished work then we went and got Gray went home and made pancakes as it was pancake day.
Its my last night so not sure what we are up to I have to pack ready for next trip. But before that im going on a bike ride to Glenelg and Back.
